Ronnie James Dio – Metal God dead at 67
May 16th, 2010 by Dr. Death

Ronnie James Dio strikes a familiar pose, which he made famous, while on stage.
This is one of those that even though you knew it was coming, it sucks when it does. Ronnie James Dio – frontman for Elf, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Heaven & Hell, and Dio – died this morning at the age of 67 after a six month battle with stomach cancer.
Dio was widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the “devil’s horns” hand gesture in metal culture.
Dio was my very first heavy metal concert in 1984. Twisted Sister opened for them at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The show was part rock, part theater, part magic, and total awesomeness. Dio was a long time favorite of mine from then and carrying on for probably the next 10 years. I still listen to his music when I’m in the mood for a 80′s metal flashback (which is often).
Peace, brother.
Six scores on this one, including four previous virgins: Buick, Joseph, Live As If You Are Dying #1, and TRock. Go Fish and Dr. Death #2 also scored.
