Rat Packer Joey Bishop dies at 89
Oct 18th, 2007 by Dr. Death
The death of 89 year old Joey Bishop Earned a solo shot for “Steve” in the Ghoulpool.us Mini, moving him out of the oh-fer category into a slightly more respectable position of at least having some points on the board.
Joey got his start in packing rats back on the docks of New York City as a young boy. Rats were easy to come by, and Joey was a firm believer in “build a better rat trap, and the world will beat a path to your door.” Joey started with a box and an apple tied to a string, but found it hard to know when a rat entered the box because rats usually feed at night. after losing dozens of apples to the night-feeding rats, Joey learned that if you removed the box, and simply coated the apple with Gorilla Glue, the rats would still be there when he woke up, ready for a hammer on the top of the noggin.
Joey’s efficiency in killing, and of course packing, rats earned him a place in New York along with the rich and famous, since they also had rat problems. His shenanigans and stories about the packed rats earned him a friendship with a couple guys, namely a black Jew named Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. (he later dropped the second Jr. because it wouldn’t sell), a not-so-mafioso named Frankie baby, and a drunk named Dean Martin. These three became not only a funny trio on the laugh-a-lot scene, but also in rat packing circles. You couldn’t find them without someone calling the the Rat Pack.

Joey was 89 when he died. Since he was the last surviving member of this group, he won free Giant sized Slurpee’s for the rest of his life by winning the bet they had all made forty years ago.
